“Too much emphasis is placed on form, education- I told my children not to worry about their grades but to enjoy learning” (Nassim Taleb). After high school there are many students who continue learning by going to a university or college. They choose to continue because they want to ensure their future economically and because society is pushing them to do it by rejecting people who does not have an academic degree.
The main reason why people decide to go to college is because they think they must. Capitalist society has made it so success is the number one priority for every citizen, measured by money and material possessions. At my school, Portales when they talk about future they say the only way is going to college.
Success is not directly derived from a degree, it can come in many different ways, but the modern world and its constant reject of anything outside the stablished even though it has been prove it’s false. “Bill Gates dropped out of university, setting him on the path to becoming the wealthiest man in the world” (Matt Weinberger, 2016).
When people apply to a job the first thing employers ask for the degree thus college is a requirement. When my mother apply to a job the only thing they asked for was a degree.
Although college is an option after high school, it should be acknowledged that there are different ways to achieve success, and that no one should be pressured to attend if it is not what they desire
